Norwegian jazz pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff and Estonian saxophone player Villu Veski first performed together as a duo in 2023, in Skjerstad church, Northern Norway. Hoff and Veski immediately found a good chemistry together, both personally and musically, which has led to several performances in Norway and Estonia. Based on their different musical background, but still similar influences in jazz and music in general, Hoff and Veski create improvisations and interpretations with a unique duo signature.
In May 2025 Hoff and Veski recorded material for a duo album in Arvo Pärt center, Estonia. Included in the program were original compositions by Hoff and Veski but also special versions of Norwegian and Estonian classics, extending their artistic collaboration with elements of heritage and folklore. The duo´s meditative approach is evident in Veski´s composition «Saga», which opens their debut album, due for release in late 2025, early 2026.
