Acuña/Hoff/Mathisen (2008-)
The legendary drummer/ percussionist Alex Acuña meets two of Norway’s leading jazz musicians, Jan Gunnar Hoff on keys and Per Mathisen on upright and electric bass. This high class trio made their CD debut in 2009 Jungle City. In 2011 Acuña invited the Norwegians over to do a DVD in Los Angeles live at Drumchannel (cover photo on top of page), with Terry Bozzio as their host. In 2012 the trio´s second album Barxeta was released. The AHM-trio has played gigs in Stockholm, Oslo, Lima (Peru), NYC, Rochester NY, Los Angeles, Zagreb. Terry O’Mahoney, Percussive Notes: “Together, they create inspired contemporary improvised instrumental music that is reminiscent of the music of Weather Report, the Keith Jarrett Trio, and other European jazz artists of the past 20 years on the ECM record label”.

Since 2008 Jan Gunnar Hoff has cooperated in various settings with bassplayer Per Mathisen. It started with their well documented trio “Acuna/Hoff/Mathisen” and has continued with different collaborations with numerous reknowned drummers: Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Gary Novak. Mathisen has also become an important part of the “Jan Gunnar Hoff Group feat Mike Stern”– quartet, which includes Audun Kleive on drums. Recent release with Hoff & Mathisen is their 2022-collaboration with US drummer Gary Novak on the album Gladiator (Losen Records).
