Jan Gunnar Hoff Group (1993 – )
Jan Gunnar Hoff Group was established in 1993, following Hoffs successful album debut Syklus, recorded October 1992 in Rainbow studios, Oslo, by the late, legendary Jan Erik Kongshaug. The core of the band was Audun Kleive (drums) and Bjørn Kjellemyr (bass). Different soloists have performed with the band, among others Knut Riisnæs (sax), Tore Brunborg (sax), Per Jørgensen (trumpet, vocal), Mathias Eick (trp). Drummers like Kenwood Dennard (US) and Paolo Vinaccia have joined the group for some live concerts and tours. JGH Group had a breakthrough at Vossa Jazz 1995 with national attention. From 1995 to 2003 the band, mainly as a quartet, recorded 3 albums: Moving, Crosslands, In Town. The band performed at London Jazz festival, Molde Int. Jazz festival and other festivals and venues in Scandinavia, Paris a.o. In 2001 the band did a highly successful collaboration with Pat Metheny at the Molde Int. Jazzfestival.

The collaboration between Jan Gunnar Hoff and guitar legend Mike Stern started in 2006 with Hoff´s commission Magma for Nordland Music FestivaI in Bodø, Northern Norway. From 2006-2008 Jan Gunnar Hoff Group toured with Stern in Norway, Ukraine and Estonia and their CD Magma was released, a much appreciated album where Stern plays an important role. A highlight was their concert in Palace Ukraine, Kyiv, 2008. for 3000 audiences. New successful tour early 2016 with Audun Kleive (drums) and Per Mathisen (bass). In Feb/March 2018 the band played Stavanger, Bergen, Oslo and Haugesund with great success, in addition to recording their second album together. Link to Oslo review by Tor Hammerø (in Norwegian). The album “Jan Gunnar Hoff Group feat. Mike Stern” was released November 2018 on Losen records. A major tour with this project in 2020 to a.o Istanbul and Copenhagen was cancelled due to Covid.
