MIKE STERN & JAN GUNNAR HOFF QUARTET

The collaboration between Hoff and guitar legend Mike Stern started in 2006 with Hoff´s commission “Magma” for Nordland Music Festival. In 2006-2008 Jan Gunnar Hoff Group toured with Stern in Norway, Ukraine and Estonia and the CD Magma was released, a much appreciated album where Stern plays an important role. January 2013 Hoff and Stern toured Norway in a quartet setting and their collaboration is very much active. New successful tour early 2016 with Audun Kleive (drums) and Per Mathisen (bass) completing the supergroup Mike Stern & Jan Gunnar Hoff Quartet.

HOFF/KLEIVE/JORMIN – NEW TRIO

Pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff launches a new trio with Anders Jormin (bass)  and Audun Kleive (drums), two of Europe´s most reknown jazz performers. Kleive has been a part of Hoff´s projects since 1992. Jormin and Hoff started their collaboration in 2012 with Hoff´s commission Living for Bodø Jazz Open.

September 2017 the trio will record an album for 2L in Sofienberg Church and make a tour: Tønsberg Urijazz-13.9, Kristiansand- 14.9, Bergen- 15.9, Oslo National Jazzscene- 16.9

JAN GUNNAR HOFF – SOLO PIANO

Jan Gunnar Hoff has developed a solo program and performed extensively in Norway, Russia, Italy, Kirgisistan, Kazakhstan. In 2014-2016 Hoff has toured Japan with his solo concept. Hoff´s solo concert are meditative, yet with a content of composition and creative improvisation. His first solo piano album, LIVING was recorded by multi Grammy nominated Morten Lindberg in 2012, and released on 2L April 2013. There is also the concept album “Stille lys” (Quiet light), out December 2014. Spring 2015 Hoff performed solo concerts at Bergmanveckan, Sweden and in Vilnius, in addition to Japan. New solo piano recording “Stories” out on 2L Desember 2016.

ACUNA/HOFF/MATHISEN

This incredible versatile trio was founded in 2008. The legendary drummer/ percussionist Alex Acuna meets two of Norway’s leading jazz musicians,  Jan Gunnar Hoff on keys and Per Mathisen on upright and electric bass. This high class trio made their CD debut in 2009 Jungle City. In 2011 Acuna invited the Norwegians over to do a DVD in Los Angeles live at Drumchannel with Terry Bozzio as their host. In 2012 the trio´s second album Barxeta was released. The AHM-trio has played gigs in Stockholm, Oslo, Lima (Peru), NYC, Rochester NY, Los Angeles, Zagreb. Terry O’Mahoney, Percussive Notes: “Together, they create inspired contemporary improvised instrumental music that is reminiscent of the music of Weather Report, the Keith Jarrett Trio, and other European jazz artists of the past 20 years on the ECM record label”.

This exciting line up had it´s debut at Bodø Jazz Open 2012, performing Hoff´s commission “Living”. The band also performed at Maijazz 2012 in Stavanger. Link to video from Stavanger rehearsal 2012. Their album “Fly North” (Losen 2014)  received great reviews and was nominated for Norwegian Grammy, Spellemannpris 2014. Performances at Kongsbergjazz July 2014 (feat. Audun Kleive) and National Jazzscene, Oslo Feb 2015.

MEDITATUS – MUSIC FOR CHOIR AND JAZZ BAND

Jan Gunnar Hoff performs as a piano soloist in his popular composition Meditatus for choir and jazz band. Meditatus received the prestigious Edvard (Grieg) -prize from TONO in 2006 and has been performed in Norway, Iceland, Canada, USA, Latvia. The jazz mass was recorded in 2007 and in 2010 on CD and DVD in Riga by the choir Fortius (photo). Bergens Tidende: “Hoff has succeeded with his concept for choir and jazz band”. Hoff has also written a new compositon for SATB, Terra Nova that was premiered on December 19, 2014 in Bodø Cathedral. Review here.

MARIANNE BEATE KIELLAND / JAN GUNNAR HOFF – TERRA NOVA

Jan Gunnar Hoff meets mezzo soprano Marianne Beate Kielland in this «cross-over» duo. A melodic and lyrical journey based on compositions by Hoff interpreted by Kielland. The latter being one of Europe´s finest mezzos, performing with leading orchestras and under conductors as Christophe Rousset, Mark Minkowski, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Rene Jacobs, George Petrou, Vasily Petrenko, Giordani Bellincampi, Nicholas Kraemer. Kielland and Hoff released their Lawo Classics album Terra Nova in April 2017.
